I'm Kylah Sim, a Registered Counsellor with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). I consult both online and from my practice in Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal. I offer counselling to children and adolescents (ages 12-18), as well as adults. Additionally, I offer career and subject choice assessments to help individuals make informed decisions about their future.
My qualifications include a B.Soc.Sci Honours degree in Psychology (BPsych Equiv.) [Cum Laude] obtained through the South African College of Applied Psychology. Before this, I completed my BA Honours degree in Psychology (Cum Laude) at the University of South Africa. I gained valuable experience practising across educational, private, and non-governmental organisation (NGO) settings, where I have had the privilege of supporting a diverse range of clients. Through these encounters, I learnt the importance of approaching each individual with sensitivity and respect, meeting them where they are, and creating a personalised therapeutic experience addressing their specific needs and goals.
I am a firm believer in making mental health services accessible. I remain mindful of this in my practice, and I am open to collaborating with community stakeholders to bring my services to those in need.
Using an integrative approach, I draw from a variety of evidence-based counselling techniques to ensure that you feel heard, understood, and empowered. Commonly used frameworks include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Narrative Therapy.
I am passionate about blending creative techniques into my approach. I have seen firsthand how art can be a powerful, universal language, often expressing emotions and ideas that words alone cannot.
Through the integration of creative and traditional counselling approaches, I aim to help clients unlock their creativity, express their emotions more freely, and gain deeper insights into their inner world. I also aim to empower clients with knowledge and practical tools to better cope with challenges and manage their well-being. This ensures that the insights and skills developed in counselling can be carried forward long after our work together has ended,

Registered Counsellor's are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), which is the regulatory body for healthcare professionals in South Africa.
Registered Counsellors engage with clients at the first signs of difficulty, improving overall well-being and mental resilience. Our services aim to prevent the onset or progression of mental health disorders.
What differentiates Registered Counsellors from other psychology professionals is that our primary focus is on prevention, early intervention, and promoting mental well-being, as we screen for mental health concerns but are unable to diagnose Mental health conditions.
